Message from the office
It has been ten weeks since we had our last break and I know that both the staff and girls are in need of some time out and a good rest.

On our return on the 2 November, it will be full steam ahead as we have 3 weeks before the end of the year exams/tests begin on the 23 November. To accommodate a whole grade on the same day for examination/test purposes, we will alternate grades and not groups as from Monday, 23rd of November. On the 23rd of November the Grade 4&5s will write their exam/test and the Grade 6 girls will have a day at home to study. On the 24th of November the Grade 6 girls will write their exam/test and the Grade 4&5s will stay at home to study and this alternating of grades will continue until the end of exams. Please note that Grade 7 girls will continue to come to school every day and the Pre-primary and Foundation Phase (Grade 00-3) will continue with their green/blue groups coming on alternate days until the end of the year). Please view the term calendar carefully as it will entail some planning on your side.

The department has indicated that we will not write exams as such but more formal tests due to the year that we have had, these will not necessarily be as long as exams nor will they test a full years’ curriculum for some subjects, but please bear in mind that they will be just as important as exams as they will be heavily weighted.

Please view your child’s Term 3 report carefully. Many girls may indeed be unhappy with their marks and they will need to put in the extra effort to prepare for their end of the year exams/tests. Many girls’ marks were not at the level they are capable of due to incomplete tasks and we are most distressed that after many requests and home days to complete them, they were still not done. Our girls need to realise that although our days are different, school is business as usual and they are going to have to put in the effort to reap the rewards. They still have one more term to make amends.

I wish you all a wonderful rest with your daughters next week. Put your feet up, travel safely, buckle up and come back ready and eager to take on the last term of 2020.

Extramural Programme
In your daughter’s report envelope you will find the Extramural Programme for Term 4. The Intersen girls (Gr 4-7) must sign up for at least 1 of the 6 fitness groups available for fitness next term. They will attend the fitness groups on the days that they are at school.
Grade 7 girls may select a second group for the alternative days (One group for Monday and Wednesday and a second group for Tuesday and Thursday). On their return next term they will have the Monday and Tuesday (2 & 3 November) sign up for their chosen group. It is compulsory for all girls to participate in these extramurals. Please ensure that your daughter comes to school dressed in sports uniform for her sports day.

Foundation Phase Sport: Please note that we will be introducing a half an hour of Physifun next term. Mondays and Tuesdays will be Physifun days, please ensure that your daughter wears her sports uniform on these days. School will end at 1pm every Monday and Tuesday next term and pick up will be between 1 and 1:30 on these days only. School will end at 12:30 on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday as usual.
There will be no extramurals for the Pre-primary Phase.

GENERAL KNOWLEDGE 2020
This year our General Knowledge competition had an entirely different look. Unfortunately, we were not able to participate against Graeme College, but this did not detract us from conducting our own Inter-house competition. The girls from Grades 4 to 7 were given a series of ‘mini quizzes’ during General Knowledge Week, which culminated in the ‘big quiz’ from which scores were calculated for house points, and from which our final General Knowledge champions emerged. It was a tightly contested competition, with Arum emerging victorious with 13 points, followed closely by Disa with 12.7 points. Just behind Disa was Fern with 12.2 points and lastly Aloe with 12 points.
Our top scorers were:

Grade 7
First – Mairi van Schoor
Second – Ruby Short
Second – Othandwayo Jaji
Third – Bronté Agnew

Grade 6
First – Olivia Weyl
First – Iyonke Nogqala
Second – Shiloh du Plessis
Third – Olwethu Nojoko
Third – Haidee Thondhlana

Grade 5
First – Sophie Büttner

Grade 4
